A much-needed day on the water

There has not been a lot of fishing joy here at the homestead lately. It started innocently enough, with wifey casually mentioning a new paint job for the bedroom a few weeks back. Early last week the paint samples arrived. It's day nine now.
The bedroom looked so good the bathroom needed a makeover too. Did I mention this is a 60-year-old house? Oh well, I've managed to survive fixture wiring roulette and lead paint poisoning. A much-needed day on the water looms tomorrow. Interesting stuff, eh?

Two weeks ago we got out and pounded sand off Carlsbad with decent results. The flatties were sitting tight to the structure on one of my small honey holes. We ended up scratching up two keepers a few hours apart, with the largest going 25lbs and another at 17 lbs.

These fish were caught within 20 yards of one another, not surprising since halibut school up like most all other fish. I also believe they school up by size at times too. Often I observe folks targeting flatties without much focus on the area they’re working. Sure they have a general area in mind. But we’re talking about small spots of structure that consistently produce. They become very evident when bounce-balling, since you’re constantly monitoring the bottom on the sounder and marking them on the GPS. Keep this in mind on your next trip out and it will pay off!
Honey, did you take the tape off the doors so I know where to hang them…
