Stabilizing water temps, increased presence of forage food, spawning activity and the excitement of summer… all ingredients to a giant fish stew around the Channel Isles and Santa Barbara Channel.
White seabass are on the chew often enough to keep the fleet busy at Santa Cruz and Santa Rosa islands. Halibut are congregating at the ends (both east and west) of the same two islands. Thresher shark are foraging along the Rincon and off of Carpinteria, barracuda are moving inshore along the Ventura County beaches and as far up the coast as Santa Barbara. Calico bass are slamming live baits and Gulp! baits in coastal and island kelp beds and around island boiler rocks. Through it all, rockfish and lingcod provide solid action for quality fish.
