Go Pound Sand!

Herbert called me Monday night and said, "Let's go fishing tommorow."
"Okay."
"Okay."
Met up with Herbert and Bob at Dana Point Harbor and departed at 6:30 on Tight Lines, Herbert’s fine Tiara. Headed north to work the area that produced for us Saturday. The first drop yielded a short lingcod.
Not much else for a couple hours. Then the light switch turned on around 9:00, and Herbert got a nice 24-pound flattie to start the day.

About 30 minutes later Bob gets a nice biter pulling drag. She hit the deck at 27 pounds.

It slowed a bit, and we were hopeful the next tide would produce, so kept pounding sand, like we always do. Scratched up a 28-inch legal lingcod around 1:00 and a sculpin a bit later. Called it a day at 4:30.
The conditions were absolutely flat calm, sunny, and gorgeous. The water was clean green/blue, and the current was ripping down the hill. It was a great day on the water with friends.
It seems like I’m seeing more folks trying the bounce-ball technique lately. That’s great because it really does catch halibut (and every other gamefish in the area). Stick with it, be patient, and pound heaps of sand. It will be well worth the effort. Don’t be shy to post comments with questions. I will gladly help out however possible. Trust me, I’ve made every mistake in the book while learning it on my own.
Most importantly, get out there and have some fun. It’s only going to get better!
