Santa Barbara Channel Update
Halibut pounce on bounce-ball rigs and drifted baits along the mainland coast from the Rock Island on up to Gaviota. The action is similar and sometimes better at the Channel Islands, with prime spots being Chinese Harbor, Christy's Ranch and Bechers Bay.

While at the islands, why not maneuver in close to the boiler rocks and have a blast catching calicos which are now at the peak of their feeding season and inhaling swimbaits, Gulp! grubs, surface jigs and live baits. Along the mainland coast, bass are willing biters in kelp beds and over shallow reefs and wrecks.
White seabass gather around squid spawns near the western end of Santa Cruz Island and the eastern end of Santa Rosa Island. Brief but furious flurries of activity can be found in Chinese Harbor.
Thresher shark action has been strong near the Rock Island, off of Caprtinteria, Goleta, Naples and Gaviota. Drifting with mackerel or sardines is the typical method, but trolling Rapalas or bait hoods is also effective for the longtails which are running from 50 to 150 pounds.
Rockfish, ocean whitefish and lingcod? You want ‘em, we got ‘em locally throughout the Santa Barbara Channel.
