Salmon have moved in south of Point Conception.

Water conditions combined activity in the low end of the food chain to create the right conditions for the chromium fish. Fifteen to twenty pound fish are being caught near Santa Barbara. As the weather improves this week (offshore breezes are forecast) boaters will get back out on the water with high hopes for a decent season.

Halibut catches are dependent on weather. When anglers are able to work at them, halibut are responding. Bounce-ballers are outproducing drifters, but both methods catch fish both along the mainland coast and throughout the coves and bays surrounding the Channel Islands.

Meanwhile, we are hooking very impressive rockfish with reds running to epic sizes. Aboard the WaveWalker we recently boated a 9lb 6oz vermilion. Lingcod are showing in decent numbers and some are big enough (up to 25 pounds) to put a serious bend in a stout rod.
