The Giant Squid Bite Is On
Tuesday night, I took Dan from the office and my buddy Kip out to catch giant squid. We all have done it before, but it's worth doing when they come in.

Tuesday night, I took Dan from the office and my buddy Kip out to catch giant squid. We all have done it before, but it's worth doing when they come in.
We cleared the harbor at 6:00 p.m. and started fishing right on the drop-off. At first it was a slow pick, but once they started to go it was full speed. One of the goals of this trip was to bring one back alive to put in my receiver at the dock to show my son Cole. I felt it was too dangerous to take him at night since he is only two years old.

Once our arms felt like they were going to fall off, we stuffed the last giant squid into the bait tank and headed for the harbor. We tried to find a little one, but the smallest we could find was around 25 pounds. Once we tied up at the dock, I checked the tank to see if he was still alive. As I took the bait tank lid off a nice shot of saltwater and ink mix let me know that he was alright.
We transferred him into the receiver and left for the night, hoping to return the next afternoon to a lively squid. I have one of the large Cure Well bait receivers from www.baitreceiver.com and – sure enough – that afternoon my son met his first giant squid. Two days later after all of the neighborhood kids checked him out, he swam away happy.
When I was a kid I had some exotic pets – but a giant squid?! Yikes!

I'm sorry I wasn't there to gaff the squirts for you... and ink you in the face!
