Seabass and yellows cruising the squid grounds is surely not a report that is unexpected at this time of the year. My question to you is how many of you are going to go and check it out? How many of you are ready to chase ghosts in the dark?
I, unfortunately, waited to do a few projects on my boat and am still not ready to make the jaunt to the islands just yet. Before making nighttime runs to Catalina, make sure all of your safety equipment and tackle are in working order.
Having fresh line and serviced tackle can avoid that disheartening story at the dock about the huge seabass that busted you off.
Make sure you do your homework and find out where the light boats have been making squid, or – even better – grab squid in L.A. before you even leave for the island.
Fuel prices are down, so these exploratory trips are back in high demand, but not being prepared is a lame excuse for wasting gas!
Get out and enjoy our resource, only take what you can eat, and throw back the rest…
