Who are the true hardcore fishermen, anyway?
Over the break between Christmas and New Year, I found myself boat-less with a son who wanted to go fishing. So we ended up at a little pond by the house, catching tiny largemouth bass with a worm and bobber. We struck up a conversation with a gentleman who spends a couple hours a day in this tiny pond. He is a diligent angler and works hard to catch; the problem is that the only fish to catch are tiny largemouth bass and a couple of two pounders or so, along with a selection of small turtles that take the bait on accident. He is definitely what I would call a hardcore angler; he just loves to fish.

When I find myself down at the beach, walking the pier, I see a large group of anglers. They are not catching much, but they really love fishing. They put in countless hours to catch few or no fish just to go fishing. When we leave the harbor, the guys are piled up in the morning, fishing from the jetty, launching their baits out, looking to catch anything.
I ended up taking my two-year-old son over to Irvine Lake to fish in the kid’s lagoon. He had a blast and caught his limit of trout in no time and even caught one with a tag and won a few dollars. Just to see the smile on his face while winding in the fish. It didn’t matter to him what it was – just that he was catching fish. I watched the guys diligently fishing that shoreline, taking it as seriously as I would an offshore marlin day.
My question to you is, “Who are the true hardcore anglers?” Are they the guys fishing from giant yachts in the comfort of the salon, enjoying satellite TV, or the guys freezing their butts off on the jetty? You tell me!

I would say both, many hardcore andgler freezing there buts off wish they had giant yachts or any decent size boat to go fishing. However, there is something I feel you loose when you fish from a big yacht... but youll get over it!
