Good Fishing for Hard-working Anglers
Oct. 20 2009, 10:42 AM
Blow... Calm... Blow... Calm... That's the story of the weather lately on the Santa Barbara Channel. But the calm periods have been stellar, allowing for long runs to Santa Rosa and San Miguel islands, or up to Point Conception for lingcod that require two hands to hold plus some very impressive reds and chucklehead.

Around the eastern end of the Channel Islands chain surface action is still going strong for mid-size bonito, big barracuda and an occasional late season yellowtail. White seabass to 30 pounds tempt many anglers to fish the edge of the kelp beds where the fish rest and forage for anchovies and sardines. At the same locations, calico bass are still eating hardy in preparation for the colder season coming soon.

Halibut are coming to bounce-ballers and to a lesser degree to live bait drift fishers, both at the islands and along the mainland coast. At certain locations… such as the Rincon, Carpinteria, Goleta and Gaviota… hard working anglers are drifting for halibut and thresher shark simultaneously. Autumn fishing is good. Come fish aboard the WaveWalker (805) 895-3273.
